Lamar lyons announces run for california state assembly 65th district

SAN PEDRO, CA — Today, LaMar Lyons, who is the President of the San Pedro Central Neighborhood Council and a life-long advocate for working people and visionary leader in public service and economic development, officially announced his candidacy for the California State Assembly seat representing the 65th District in the 2026 election.

With deep roots in the Harbor Region and decades of experience bridging public and private sector solutions, Lyons is stepping in to the 65th district race to bring bold leadership, pragmatic policies, and real results to Sacramento—championing job creation, housing affordability, public safety, and environmental justice for families across the district.

Lamar has helped shape conversations surrounding the redevelopment of the decommissioned Phillips 66 site, a once-in-a-generation opportunity for economic transformation. To spark economic growth, he proposes small-scale, clean-technology micro-factories focused on precision manufacturing and flexible production lines. His plan centers on creating high-wage, career-track jobs while building a strong local workforce and establishing reentry pipelines in partnership with educational and training institutions.

“I am running to be the voice of working families, to create opportunity right here in our communities, and to ensure that everyone has a chance at a good job, a safe neighborhood, and an affordable home,” said LaMar Lyons. “Our future depends on investing in people, not politics as usual.”

A Proven Leader Ready to Deliver

Lyons brings a lifetime of lived experience working alongside California’s labor force—from selling newspapers and flipping burgers to leading in municipal finance and public policy. He currently serves as President of the San Pedro Central Neighborhood Council and his career has spanned roles including Chief of Staff in the California State Assembly, where he helped advance meaningful legislative progress.

As a small business owner and advocate for public-private partnerships, Lyons knows how to attract investment, spur job growth, and build sustainable economic opportunity without leaving working families behind.

Common-Sense Solutions for Today’s Challenges

Lyons’ campaign will focus on:

  • Economic Development & Job Creating: Strengthening the education-to-employment pipeline, supporting trade-centered workforce pathways, and clean-technology micro-factories to boost the economy.

  • Affordable Housing: Aligning policies with the needs of working families, cutting red tape and barriers that block access to attainable homes for residents and families.

  • Public Safety with Compassion: Advancing care-first reforms that protect communities while supporting comprehensive mental health and reentry services.

  • Environmental Justice: Championing clean energy and healthy neighborhoods for all Californians, while promoting clean-technology manufacturing in the 65th district.
